KAAST RD series radial arm drill presses are in stock and available for immediate delivery from our Philadelphia and Chicago warehouses. With drilling capacity up to 4" in steel and spindle-to-column reach up to 98", the RD series radial drilling machine handles large, awkward workpieces that a standard drill press simply can't reach. Tapping capacity up to 3" in steel. Motors from 2–10 hp. Two series available — the RD for standard production and the RDS for small, fast-positioning work.
Why the RD Series Belongs in Your Shop
Radial arm drill presses exist for one reason: to let you bring the spindle to the workpiece instead of the other way around. When you're drilling a large casting, a weldment, a structural part, or any workpiece too big to reposition under a column drill press, the RD's flexible radial arm handles it — moving both horizontally along the arm and vertically on the column without re-clamping the part.
The RD series radial type drilling machine is built on a rigid cast iron column and base for stability during heavy drilling. The high-efficiency gearbox runs precision, high-speed gears in an oil bath to minimize wear and noise. A friction-type disc clutch absorbs impact force during spindle movement and speeds up tapping with quick spindle return. An arm elevating safety device is standard on every machine — preventing the arm from dropping after years of use.
Radial Drill Key Features Front and Center
RD — Standard Radial Drill Press Up to 4" drilling capacity in steel (4" in cast iron) | Up to 3" tapping capacity | Spindle-to-column reach up to 98" | Motors from 2–10 hp | Multiple spindle speeds and feeds
RDS — Small, Fast-Positioning Radial Drill Press Compact footprint with faster arm positioning — ideal for batch drilling on smaller workpieces where cycle time matters.
Standard configuration on all RD models: Digital spindle speed display, digital quill travel indicator, horizontal table, tiltable table, cube table, coolant system, thread tapping function, drill chuck, work light, leveling pads, tool kit, operation manual.
Optional: Uni-tilt table with 90° tilt and calibrated degree indicator
Common Applications for the Radial Drill Press
The RD series is used for drilling, tapping, reaming, and boring in job shops, structural steel fabrication, heavy equipment repair, shipbuilding, and general metalworking — anywhere large or heavy workpieces make column drill presses impractical. Typical workpieces include large castings, weldments, frames, flanges, plates, and base structures.
Why Manufacturers Choose a KAAST Radial Drill Press
When you invest in a radial arm drill for sale from KAAST, you are investing in long-term reliability. We understand that machine shops require more than just a machine; they require a partner that understands the nuances of high-tolerance finishing.
